2017 Fleet Salaries

There was a slight decrease of fleet managers who reported managing one to five employees in 2016. Meanwhile, the percentage of fleet managers who reported overseeing no employees increased slightly.

Fleet managers with more than 20 years of experience reported the highest median salary in 2016 of $92,500. This number was $5,000 lower than what was reported in 2014. However, managers with one to 20 year’s worth of experience noticed increases.

Of survey respondents in 2016, 28% of fleet managers reported to having some college experience. This was followed by a three-way tie of respondents (17%) having earned a technical or business degree, or having a high school diploma.

Most fleet managers (55%) manage only fleet. This was followed by 24% of managers reporting that their other responsibility was handling meetings. Meanwhile, 10% of respondents reported “other” duties.

Fleet manager salaries continued to rise in 2016. A majority of fleet managers in the 2017 survey make between $60,000 and $90,000, with the most common average being $72,500.

A majority of fleet managers (74%) reported receiving a pay increase in 2016, which was essentially stagnant to the 77% who reported an increase in 2015. There was a slight rise (4%) in 2016 of fleet managers reporting that their salaries did not change.

Fleet managers who have earned an MBA degree reported the highest median salary in 2016 at $100,000. This was followed closely by those who are CAFM certified, earning a median salary of $97,500.

Fleet managers surveyed continued to report an increase for each jump in the total vehicles they manage. The lowest median being $57,500 for those who manage less than 50 vehicles, and a $100,000 median for those who manage over 1,000.

The largest number of fleet managers (40%) reported that they spent between 76 to 100% of their time on fleet management. This was followed closely by 31% of fleet managers who dedicated 51 to 75% of their time on fleet.
