General Motors is recalling 1,177 2014 model-year Chevrolet Impala sedans because a problem with their brake pads might result in a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

This new recall covers a limited number of vehicles that were previously recalled. However, their repairs at that time were incorrect, NHTSA said.

The newly recalled vehicles – all manufactured from Nov. 15, 2012, to May 27, 2014 – have an electronic parking brake piston actuation arm that may not fully retract. This condition might cause the brake pads to stay partially engaged with the rotors and lead to excessive brake heat. The risk of fire is associated with this level of heat.

Because of these safety issues, the vehicles don’t comply with all federal safety requirements for light vehicle brake systems, NHTSA said.

GM dealers will reprogram the electronic parking brake control module with new software, free of charge.

Vehicle owners can reach Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is 15100.
