During a global livestream event on January 21, Volvo released details on the all-new, all-electric EX60 midsize SUV.

At roughly $60,000 well equipped, the EX60 is aimed at fleets evaluating electric vehicles through the lens of operational risk, driver safety, and long-term value, with Volvo pointing to fast charging, advanced ADAS, AI-enabled interfaces, and bundled leasing and care programs as key differentiators.

“The EX60 is a real game-changer for our fleet customers," said Tracy Herman, senior manager. "This is our most popular fleet segment, and the EX60 delivers exactly what fleets have been asking for. It directly addresses the three biggest barriers we hear when talking about EV adoption — range, charging time, and cost — while still delivering the safety, performance, and reliability people expect from Volvo.”

Volvo unveiled the all-electric EX60 midsize SUV during a globally livestreamed event, positioning it as a premium, well-equipped entry into the electric SUV segment.

With an estimated 400-mile range, fast-charging capability, and a starting price around $60,000 when well equipped, Volvo executives highlighted charging performance, AI-enabled driver interaction, advanced safety systems, a simplified vehicle architecture, and bundled leasing and care programs.

Volvo EX60 Range

With a longer range and shorter charging times, fleets can experience less downtime and fewer vehicles per route. The EX60 offers up to 400 miles of all-wheel-drive range on a single charge. Using a 400kW fast charger, 173 miles of range can be added in about 10 minutes.

There’s an optional 10-year battery warranty to ensure durability.

EX60 Safety Features

Built on real-life accident and crash data, the EX60's safety systems focus on addressing distraction and fatigue.

Key safety systems in the EX60 include:

  • Driver understanding system: detects distraction or impairment and can stop the vehicle.

  • Full cabin sensing: protects occupants and supports compliance and duty-of-care policies.

  • Advanced ADAS and Pilot Assist: supports fatigue reduction on long routes

Next-Gen Seat Belts

The new multi-adaptive safety belt adjusts to occupant size, including height, weight, body shape, and seating position. The belt uses data from interior and exterior sensors.

Over-the-air updates are also included as a safety feature.

Simplified Vehicle Architecture Aims to Lower Ownership Costs

Volvo leadership discussed lower all-around costs driven by a new vehicle architecture and fewer service visits.

The car’s made lighter through megacasting and cell-to-body technology. The battery pack is now directly integrated into the body, distributing the weight evenly and making a more open cabin space.

Volvo’s goal is to reduce operating costs and internal issues found in regular or hybrid vehicles.

Gemini Voice AI

Gemini is an AI system that drivers can have conversations with.

The feature is integrated directly into the vehicle and was developed in partnership with Google. The company has worked on Gemini for nearly a decade, allowing drivers to do everything from planning a road trip to checking the size of their trunks.

The EX60 is the first Volvo model to feature Gemini and emphasizes safety, as drivers will spend less time using the display and more time using their voices to interact with Gemini.

Gemini is intended to reduce the need for display controls. Rather than predetermined commands, Gemini is intended to be informal.

Gemini will be continuously updated via software updates.

New Connected Tech

An integrated Volvo charging app is intended to streamline and simplify the public charging process.

Volvo consolidated access into a single charging interface, supported by hands-free interaction with Gemini. Navigation, vehicle information, and communication are all available through Gemini. .
