Transportation-related accidents accounted for 41% of work-related fatalities in the U.S. in 2015, according to the National Safety Council's latest report. That same year, workplace fatigue and sleep issues likely contributed to an estimated 478,000 injuries.
Preventable deaths in the U.S. also reached a record high in 2015, with over 146,500 fatalities from causes like drug overdoses, vehicle crashes, falls, and more. Poisonings, including opioid overdoses, were the leading cause of accidental deaths in 24 states.
The National Safety Council hopes that by sharing this data, efforts to reduce preventable injuries and deaths can be strengthened.
