The groundbreaking ceremony, at the site of the future factory, marked a significant milestone toward VinFast’s global expansion and the development of the company’s supply chain in North America.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said VinFast's U.S. factory project is the first electric vehicle manufacturing facility in North Carolina, as well as the largest economic development initiative in the state’s history.

In 2022, VinFast bought 1,765 acres of land in Chatham County, NC, for approximately $44 million to build its forthcoming EV manufacturing facility.

A church scheduled for demolition to make way for VinFast’s new $4 billion EV plant in Moncure, Chatham County, was saved after VinFast announced in a goodwill gesture that it intends to donate up to three acres of property on the VinFast project site to the Merry Oaks Baptist Church to help them save the church from demolition.
