Ford Transit Kansas City Assembly Plant Tour

The engine and the drivetrain are then mated to the body.

The body is then sent through the Fori Loop which consists of 16 parts-matching carts that has individual lifters for the front and rear suspension.

On hand was a Knapheide Transit KUV utility vehicle.

Before the bodies make it to the paint booth, workers make sure there are not rough spots that need to be smoothed out.

The group was given a sneak peek at what Knapheide will have available for the 2015 Transit.

After the trip to the assembly plant, the group was brought to Knapheide's facility in SubTropolis, a 5,000,000-square-foot, man-made cave in the bluffs above the Missouri River in Kansas City.

One of the more interesting forms of transportation in the Ford plant.

Starting at the end: Attendees began their tour near the end of the Transit's journey through the assembly plant.

While waiting in the foyer for a tour guide, media representatives admired a photo of the Kansas City lanscape circa the 1960s.

"Godzilla" lifts the roof onto the body after the sides are loaded to the body and the tabs bent into place so that the sides are held to the underbody as it transfers to the framer.
