Nagel-Group, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, began testing a fully electric eActros truck for distribution earlier this month in Hamburg, Germany.
The distribution company plans to run this test for around one year and intends to prove that a fully electric vehicle can be reliable. It is part of a series of practical trials by Mercedes Benz for the eActros. The goal is to achieve production maturity for heavy electric trucks for distribution operations starting in 2021.
Nagel-Group is a long-standing food distributor and plans to evolve its fleet to be ecologically and economically sustainable. It is joined by nine other customers from different sectors in Germany and Switzerland that are also taking part in the customer trials.
The eActros is equipped with lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 240 kWh; the specified range stands at 200 kilometers. The company has set up its own charging station specifically for this test. It is charged overnight at the Kraftverkehr Nagel's Rungedamm branch to avoid delays during the day. The Nagel-Group will not be making full use of this range initially.
