Lauren Fletcher, vice president of content at Bobit, presented Rob Minton with The Lifecycle Honor during an awards ceremony at this year's Fleet Forward Conference. The event was held on October 22.
A new honor, the Lifecycle Award, recognizes individuals whose careers have left a lasting mark on the fleet industry through leadership, innovation, and service.
Fletcher started the announcement with a nostalgic story of her earliest experiences with Minton, featuring a fender bender, a few tears, and a transformer truck on her first press drive.
“It was one of the most memorable days of my life… Since that day, Rob has built an incredible career that has spanned decades in the industry,” Fletcher said. “Through it all, he has stayed grounded, approachable, and full of trademark calm. His love for performance vehicles isn’t just a hobby–it’s part of who he is. The passion for driving and the drive itself shows up in everything he does.”
Minton began his career at GM and Cadillac, working in fleet communications. His more recent work spans a decade with Geotab, first as an OEM manager, then as associate vice president of fleet management partnerships. Currently, he is the associate vice president of connected car business development.
“My first day transitioning to fleet, I knew nothing about it, but I soon learned,” Minton said on stage. “And what I learned is that it’s an amazing industry.”
Minton reflected on his career change and transition to telematics. “I started cold calling and emailing the telematics companies listed in the Automotive Fleet fact book. The next day, Colin Sutherland reached out from Geotab…and the rest is history.”
Minton ended his acceptance speech announcing his upcoming retirement on December 31.
“Every day is a blessing, and I don’t take that for granted,” Minton concluded. “I want to make sure that I’m taking advantage of that while I’m healthy enough to do so. I want to spend time with my kids and grandkids, and of course, drive my Corvette.’
