The Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan gets a standard nine-speed automatic transmission for 2015 that will enable it to reach a highway fuel economy of 35 miles per gallon when paired with an inline four, the automaker announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Fuel-conscious customers can order the 2.4L MultiAir2 Tigershark inline four that produces 184 horsepower and 173 lb.-ft. of torque. A 3.6L Pentastar V-6 generating 295 hp and 262 lb.-ft. of torque is also available.
The 2015 200, which will be built in Michigan, will arrive for purchase by July 1 with a starting retail price of $21,700.
The sedan also gets an optional all-wheel-drive system that improves fuel economy by disconnecting the rear axle under normal driving conditions. The sedan operates as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle until triggers such as weather or driving inputs activate the AWD system.
The Chrysler 200 maintains a solid presence in rental fleets with 44,019 registrations during the 2012 calendar year. Commercial fleets added 2,428 in 2012. Chrysler sells 37.5 percent of its 200 sedans into fleet channels.
