Cadillac will name its upcoming flagship luxury sedan the Cadillac CT6, which is derived from the naming convention the brand applies to its CTS sedan, General Motors has announced.
The CT6, which will go into production in late 2015, will give Cadillac a full-size luxury sedan to offer above the CTS and XTS sedans. Cadillac sees the CT6 among "the elite group of top-class large luxury cars."
The rear-wheel-drive CT6 will use lightweight body materials to reduce fuel consumption. It will use entirely new vehicle architecture, according to GM. It will be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant.
Cadillac is shifting its strategic approach to the luxury vehicle market under the leadership of Johan de Nysschen, who joined the brand as its new president in August. Cadillac will begin operating as a separate business unit based in New York in 2015.
