The Department of Energy (DOE) reported that the national average price of diesel fuel slipped 0.3 cents per gallon last week to $1.320, breaking a six-week upward trend. The DOE reported that the price of gasoline also lowered last week, losing 0.9 cents per gallon to end the week at $1.404.

Researchers at the University of Illinois are working with an experimental fuel that blends corn-based ethanol with diesel, according to an Associated Press (AP) report. The fuel is called E diesel. It is currently being tested at two farms in the state in the hope it proves to be durable, cost-effective, and more environmentally sensitive than conventional diesel fuel.

Drivers of diesel trucks spent an average of $8.40 more this week than last week to fill their tanks. A report by the Department of Energy states that the average price of a gallon of diesel continued to climb this week, reaching $1.323 per gallon on April 8, which is 2.8 cents above last week at this time and 16.9 cents above the price six weeks ago.
