In 2016, the Albuquerque, N.M. metropolitan area had the highest per-capita auto theft rate in the country, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau's annual 'Hot Spots' report. The report ranks metropolitan areas based on vehicle theft data and highlights significant shifts in rankings.


Albuquerque saw a dramatic rise in thefts from 6,657 in 2015 to 10,011 in 2016. New additions to the top 10 include Anchorage, Alaska, and Billings, Montana.
