Jaguar Land Rover will create a fleet of more than 100 research vehicles in the next four years to develop and test connected and autonomous vehicle technologies, the company has announced.

The fleet, which will be based in the United Kingdom, will begin testing later this year. The first of these research cars will be driven on a new 41 mile test route on motorways and urban roads around Coventry and Solihull.

Jaguar is developing technologies such as Roadwork Assist that will help steer drivers through road construction and Safe Pullaway to prevent accidents. Cars will communicate with other cars "over the horizon" and drivers would be alerted about the approach of an emergency vehicle.
