To improve fuel economy and performance, the automaker said it updated the Compass’ and Patriot powertrain for MY-2014 with a new six-speed PowerTech automatic transmission. The automaker hasn’t yet released fuel economy numbers for its models equipped with the new six-speed transmission.
Chrysler said the new six-speed transmission also helps reduce maintenance costs, as there is no transmission dipstick, and transmission filter and fluid changes aren’t necessary.
Engine choices for each vehicle include a 2.0L four-cylinder engine in the Sport and Latitude models and a 2.4L inline four-cylinder in the Limited models. The new six-speed transmission is standard on the Latitude and Limited models (the Sport models get a five-speed manual transmission).
Drivetrain choices on the 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot include a standard front-wheel-drive system, and the available Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II systems. Vehicles equipped with the Freedom Drive I system also get the new six-speed transmission.
