Three General Motors vehicles have been ranked at the top of a list that measures the impact of vehicle production on the domestic economy.
The 2016 Kogod Made in America Auto Index ranked the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia at the top of the list with 80% compliance with the American Automotive Labeling Act (AALA). The vehicles were given a 90 score on the index for total domestic content.
The Ford F-150 was determined to be 70% in compliance with AALA with an 85 score on the index. The index also considered a vehicle's profit margin.
In 2015, 17.5 million vehicles were sold in the U.S. About 65% were produced in the U.S. The auto industry employed 1.55 million workers and supported 5.7 million jobs in repair shops, part supply stores and car dealerships.
"As such an important part of the U.S. economy, understanding the factors that influence the automobile industry is not just helpful — it is essential. A vehicle’s domestic manufacturing composition plays a key role in determining its overall impact on the American economy," according to a release.
A year ago, Cars.com named the Toyota Camry as the most American-made car based on its manufacturing locations in Indiana and Kentucky.
