Nissan is giving its Sentra compact car a mid-cycle update that includes additional safety and driving-convenience technologies, and will show the vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Sentra will be offered in six models, including S 6MT, S Xtronic, FE+ S, SV, SR and SL. The Sentra S with the 6-speed manual transmission is priced at $16,780. Nissan’s 2016 Sentra SV with the Driver Assist package is priced under $20,000, according to the automaker. Full pricing on all trim levels and packages will be announced at a later date.

The expanded suite of safety and driving aid technologies now available on the Sentra, including forward emergency braking (FEB), intelligent cruise control (ICC), blind spot warning (BSW) and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA).

Intelligent cruise control (ICC) and forward emergency braking (FEB) are combined as part of the new technology package offered for Sentra SR and SL grades. ICC uses radar to maintain a set speed and distance between the Sentra and the vehicle ahead. FEB provides audible and visual warnings to help alert the driver of a potential collision with the vehicle ahead in the traveling lane and can help reduce speed if necessary.

Blind spot warning (BSW) and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) are included in the navigation package (SV and SR grades) and are standard on Sentra SL. These two systems provide audio and visual alerts for drivers. 

To boost passenger safety, the Sentra is now equipped with Nissan's advanced air bag system (AABS) and its LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children).

All 2016 Sentra models are powered by a 1.8L four-cylinder engine mated to an Xtronic continuously variable transmission with sub-planetary gear. The engine’s internal friction has been reduced, to improve efficiency. The mid-size sedan has a retuned suspension design featuring a 10% increase in spring and damper rates. 

NissanConnect with navigation and mobile apps comes standard on the Sentra SL trim, but is also available on the SV and SR trims. It features a 5.8-inch color touch-screen, NissanConnect apps and Nissan voice recognition for audio and navigation.

Siri Eyes Free voice recognition is also new for the 2016-model year (MY), it comes standard on the SV, SR, and SL trim levels.  

There are seven packages available for the refreshed 2016 Sentra. 

Commercial fleets added 1,771 Nissan Sentra vehicles in 2013, according to Automotive Fleet data.
