The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will offer expanded safety technologies, expanded use of 8-speed transmissions, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto when it arrives for the 2016 model year, General Motors has announced.
The new Silverado models, which debuted at the State Fair of Texas on Sept. 24, will also feature a styling update. Chevrolet has added a new more muscular front end, sculpted hoods, and LED daytime running lights and tail lights.
The 2016 Silverado will offer new safety features such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and IntelliBeam high-beam assist. New convenience features include a remote locking tailgate and wireless phone charging on LT and LTZ double cab and crew cab models.
For 2016, the Silverado will increase connectivity with available OnStar and 4G LTE Wi-Fi. It will support mobile device integration with Apple Car Play, which projects iPhone features on an available MyLink display. The 7-inch screen can also support Android Auto.
The engine lineup carries over. Three direct-injection gasoline engines include the standard 4.3L V-6 that makes 285 hp and 305 lb.-ft. of torque; 5.3L V-8 that makes 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque; and 6.2L V-8 that makes 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
For 2016, the 8-speed transmission is now standard on the 5.3L LTZ, LTZ Z71, and High Country models.
