New-vehicle sales, including fleet, should reach 1.22 million units for October, an 11.7% improvement when compared to the same month in 2012, according to Kelley Blue Book.

The increase comes on the heels of September's first year-over-year decline in 27 months. This month has one more selling day than October of 2012, which was heavily affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Toyota and Ford showed the greatest gains in October, according to the vehicle information provider. Toyota reported strong sales for its Camry and all-new Corolla. Ford is expected to report strong sales this month driven by demand for the F-Series and recently redesigned Fusion and Escape. Chrysler, Honda, and Nissan also are expected to post double-digit gains following redesigns and introductions such as the Jeep Cherokee, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima.

Retail sales are expected to account for 84% of the 1.22 million vehicles sold. Industry sales remain on track to reach 15.6 million units sold in 2013.

The federal government's partial shutdown didn't appear to affect sales, according to Kelley Blue Book. Read the full release here.
