Video: GM Says Ignition Recall Cars Safe With Single Key on Key Chain
The automaker says vehicles covered by the ignition-switch recall have performed safely in recent tests in which a single key on the key ring was used. There were no other objects on the key ring to add extra weight and pressure in the ignition.
VIDEO: Ignition Recall Vehicles Safe to Drive With Single Key
General Motors said it has conducted more than 80 different tests on vehicles subject to the ignition-switch recall, and the cars all performed safely when the car key in the ignition was the only item on the key ring.
Despite extremely challenging road conditions, these tests demonstrated that the cars in the ignition-switch recall are safe to drive as long as there is just one key on the key ring and the key fob is removed, GM said. As a result, car owners can safely operate their car under these conditions until their repair appointment.
