Tesla Motors is updating the software for its Model S battery-electric to include safety connectivity features, including an alert designed to prevent drivers from running out of charge accidentally, CEO Elon Musk said March 19.

“It will be impossible to run out of charge unless you do so intentionally,” Musk said.

Tesla offers software updates to Model S customers, providing the cars with new or expanded functions. Software version 6.1, made available last year, provided driver assistance features such as forward collision warning and traffic aware cruise control, which allows the Model S to adjust its speed based on the vehicle directly in front of it, Bloomberg reports.

The Model S equipped with the 85 kW lithium-ion battery provides an EPA-rated range of 265 miles, which is the longest range among electric vehicles now on the market.
