The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline rose 2.4 cents to $2.068 per gallon for the week ending Feb. 2, according to federal data.

The move was the first increase since a late-September blip amidst a nearly continuous decline that began in the late summer. Gasoline remains $1.224 lower than a year ago.

Gasoline prices rose in only two of the nine regions tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The price rose 9.3 cents to $2.029 in the Midwest and 1 cent to $1.86 in the Gulf Coast region.

The average price of gasoline remains below $2 per gallon in 25 states with Idaho registering the lowest prices at $1.854 on average, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Meanwhile, the cost of a gallon of diesel fell 3.5 cents to $2.831 per gallon for the week. Diesel fuel is now $1.12 less than it was a year ago.
