NEW YORK CITY  - Nissan planned to open its “Taxi of Tomorrow” exhibit in New York City on November 1. The automaker said number of New York City officials, including Taxi & Limousine Commissioner David Yassky, would be on hand to preview the interior design planned for the Nissan NV200 Taxi.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) selected the NV200 as its “Taxi of Tomorrow” in May 2011. The vehicle will hit the streets in 2013 as the official taxi for the city.

A number of interior design features are planned for the taxi, including a transparent roof panel to give passengers a view of the city; sliding doors with an entry step and grab handles; USB charging access for passengers; independent, passenger controlled rear-seat heat/air conditioning with a grape phenol-coated air filter to improve cabin air quality; a flat floor; and enhanced interior materials, including breathable, anti-microbial, easy-to-clean seat upholstery. Nissan said the upholstery is also environmentally friendly.

The ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ project began in 2007 to establish the vision for a next-generation New York City taxicab.

If you’re in the city, the Nissan ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ Design Expo is located on the pedestrian plaza across from the Flatiron building at Broadway and Fifth Avenue, and will be open to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 1, noon-9 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m.-9 p.m.; and, Saturday, Nov. 5, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
