DETROIT – Audi brought its new 2013-MY A4 to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The redesigned vehicle is available in sedan, S4, and wagon models, with the wagon called the Audi allroad quattro.

Under the hood, the vehicles feature the following engines: a 2.0L TFSI engine with 211 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque on the A4 and allroad, and a 3.0L TFSI engine with 333 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque on the S4. The A4 model features Audi drive select, a system that adjusts the vehicle's transmission shift characteristics, throttle response, and dynamic steering. The S4’s Audi drive select system can also control the adaptive damping suspension and quattro sport differential.

The A4 sedan features a continuously variable multitronic transmission as standard. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the A4 quattro and S4 sedans. A  seven-speed S tronic transmission is optional on the S4, an eight-speed tiptronic transmission is standard on the allroad and optional on the A4 quattro sedan, and quattro permanent all-wheel drive is standard on the S4 and allroad, and available on the A4 sedan.

The new A4 wagon is called the allroad quattro.

Audi redesigned the vehicle’s look and exterior designs, with accentuated horizontal lines, an arched engine hood, redesigned bumpers with angular air inlets, a revised grille, and rectangular front fog lights. New paint finishes for the A4 include Scuba Blue metallic and Volcano Red metallic; new paint finishes for the S4 include Prism Silver crystal effect and Misano Red pearl effect.

The automaker also upgraded the vehicle’s interior, refining it with reconfigured climate and infotainment controls, and exclusive wood inlays. Audi also added chrome and high-gloss to the steering wheel and instrument panel. The new vehicle features a revised set of interior colors with Fine Nappa leather. Inlays are now available in Aluminum Trigon, Walnut dark brown, fine grain Ash natural, and layered Oak. According to Audi, 17-inch wheels are standard on the A4, 18-inch wheels are standard on the S4 and allroad, and 19-inch wheels are optional on all models.

Inside the A4 Sedan’s luggage compartment, the vehicle provides 17 cubic feet of space, and 34 cubic feet with the seats folded down. The A4 allroad quattro has 28 cubic feet of space and 50 cubic feet with the seats folded down, respectively. An electrically-operated tailgate is available for the allroad.

Audi offers a number of safety technologies for the A4 family of vehicles, including adaptive front lighting and Audi side assist, which monitors the space behind and beside the A4 by radar and detects any vehicles in the neighboring lanes. The optional Driver Assistance package offers additional features, including adaptive cruise control that keeps the A4 at a constant distance from the preceding vehicle, active lane assist, and dynamic steering. Active lane assist helps keep the vehicle between the lanes if it starts to drift.
