Vehicle ResearchPhotos 7December 13, 2019

Mercedes-Benz is adding the 2020 GLB 250 to its lineup as a compact SUV with an optional third row. Journalists drove the vehicle in the Scottsdale, Ariz., area in early December, along with the company's rebooted CLA, which shares plenty of features. Photos courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.

The 2020 GLB 250 is available with FWD or 4Matic all-wheel drive.

The GLB will compete with the BMW X1, Range Rover Discovery Sport, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

All models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 (221 hp).

The FWD model retails for $37,595, while the 4Matic model starts at $39,595.

The GLB 250 will offer an array of safety features and an optional third row that's probably more suited for children.

The two-row model offers up to 62 cu.-ft. of cargo space when seats are folded.

A pair of optional 10.25-inch displays can replace standard 7-inch screens.
