Ford's 2020 Escape Adds Hybrid Models

Ford's 2020 Escape will enter its fourth generation with new hybrid powertrains, flexible cargo space, and new safety technology with a goal of remaining one of the leading compact SUVs adopted by commercial fleets.
The 2020 Escape adds not one, but two, hybrid powertrains, including gasoline-electric and plug-in models. The standard hybrid should provide a range of more than 550 miles, while the plug-in hybrid should achieve an all-electric range of more than 30 miles.
The Escape is the latest Ford model to get the Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technology bundle that includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Cargo space expands to 37.5 cubic inches with the rear seats in place.
Ford is reintroducing a standard hybrid Escape, which it once produced before discontinuing it in 2012. The new model will offer a 2.5-liter gasoline engine that can provide 40 miles per gallon in combined driving cycles.
The Escape will also offer a new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 180 horsepower and a plug-in hybrid that provides about 50% better range than the outgoing Fusion Energi plug-in sedan.
A 2.0-liter 250-hp turbocharged four-cylinder is the fourth engine that's available in top-trim models. It's a carryover engine that's been updated to provider greater power output.
The engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to a front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain.
Ford will debut the 2020 Escape at the New York auto show later this month. It will go on sale in the fall.
