Cars.com has selected the 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 HD as the top 1-ton heavy duty pickup in a challenge powered by PickupTrucks.com and Mrtruck.com.

Testing pitted the Sierra HD against two competitors, including the 2015 Ford F-350 and Ram 3500 HD.

The media outlets evaluated the trucks for vehicle control while towing, including a 7.2-mile descent from the Eisenhower Pass in Colorado with up to 7 percent grades.

Other tests included collecting a 0-60 mph time on the Milan, Mich., drag strip, 60-0 mph braking distance at the Milford, Mich., Proving Ground, and fuel economy while trailering in Michigan.

In the Cars.com evaluation, the 2014 Ram 2500 HD was picked as the top 3/4-ton pickup. Read more about the evaluation and methodology at PickupTrucks.com.
