Altec Recalls 51 Trucks for Fire Risk
The aerial device and digger derrick trucks are equipped with a battery equalizer that may be susceptible to electrical fire because of an epoxy sealing compound.

Altec Industries is recalling 51 2000-2013 model-year aerial device and digger derrick trucks because of an electrical fire risk tied to Sure Power Battery Equalizers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
These battery equalizers contain a particular epoxy sealing, or potting, compound aimed at providing insulation. But because the potting compound can conduct electricity after heat exposure, the material can begin melting and burning.
Altec dealers will replace any battery equalizer that poses such a fire risk. There will be no charge for this service.
The recall is expected to get under way this month. Truck owners can reach Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 603.
