Details for the fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery luxury SUV were announced at the Paris Motor Show, including its $49,990 price tag.

The Discovery, which was given a mid-2017 release, features a significantly different exterior look, which is built from lightweight aluminum construction that cuts approximately 1,000 pounds from the weight of the outgoing LR4, according to the automaker.

“The all-new Discovery redefines the large SUV. The Land Rover design and engineering teams have revolutionized the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV. We truly believe the result is a radical departure in design that will introduce the Discovery Family to a new, wider customer base,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer.

The Discovery accommodates up to seven people, like the previous LR4 model, and features a body measuring 16 feet in length. It will offer an available Intelligent Seat Fold technology, which allows owners to reconfigure the second- and third-row seats using vehicle control or via a smartphone app. Both two-seat and three-seat configurations are available with heated seats – heated and cooled in rows one and two, and massage seats are available for the driver and front passenger.

The Discovery is powered by either a petrol or diesel engine. The 340-HP supercharged 3.0L petrol V-6  features 332 lb.-ft. of torque and is carried over from the previous generation Land Rover. New to the Discovery is the 254HP turbocharged diesel V-6 that delivers 443 lb.-ft. of torque.

Models that are equipped with air suspension can utilize the Auto Access Height technology, which is designed to reduce the ride-height by up to 1.57 inches as passengers enter or exit the vehicle.

Other interior details include the optional Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, which features a 10-inch touch screen positioned high on the center console. Up to six charging points are available as well as seven USB sockets.

Discovery drivers with Activity Key wristband can hold the device up to the Discovery badge on rear tailgate to lock the vehicle and disable the ordinary key, which can be left inside the vehicle.

The SUV provides 82.7 cubic ft. of load capacity, or 45 cubic ft. behind row two. The Discovery has a maximum towing capacity of 8,201 pounds.
