Sales of vehicles from eight manufacturers to commercial fleets fell 10% to 46,555 vehicles mostly due to a sharp drop in car sales, according to Automotive Fleet data.

During the month, passenger car sales fell 54.7% to 4,362 vehicles, while sales of trucks, SUVs, and vans remained essentially flat, increasing 0.2% to 42,193.

Fleet sales remain solidly positive for the year so far. Through eight months, the manufacturers have sold 473,643 vehicles, which is an 8.6% increase from the same period in 2015.

Year-to-date truck category sales fell 76.6% to 84,057 vehicles, while car sales declined 6.3% to 72,524 units.
