Indiana Bans Texting While Driving for All Drivers
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels on May 10 signed into law a bill that bans texting while driving for all drivers.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels on May 10 signed into law a bill that bans texting while driving for all drivers.
The ban is a primary enforcement law, meaning law enforcement officers can ticket a driver solely on the basis of texting while driving.
The law takes effect July 1. Violations carry a fine of up to $500.
Washington was the first state to enact a texting ban in May 2007. Since that time, 31 other states have passed similar bans. Currently, legislation is pending in Missouri and Nevada.
