Kenworth and WAVE will participate in the U.S. Department of Energy’s electrified powertrain project to develop a 1-megawatt wireless charging system for Class 8 electric trucks.
In-route charging means buses can have smaller batteries, reduced vehicle weight, a higher passenger capacity, and extended range.
The event, held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis Sept. 19 to 21, featured an expanded show floor and educational sessions touching on everything from electric buses to how to implement a succession plan.
With a theme to be “100% Green in 2018,” the California-based agency recently awarded BYD a contract to supply up to 85 electric buses over a five-year period, with the first 29 set to be delivered over the next year.
