Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. will offer its last Beetle as a more limited-run 2019 model called the Beetle Final Edition, and will cease production of the vehicle in July at its assembly plant in Puebla, Mexico.
The recall affects nearly 92,000 Jetta, Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Passat, Golf/GTI and Golf SportWagen vehicles in the 2015 and 2016 model years.
The action involves nearly 38,000 vehicles in the 2014 and 2015 model years, including Jetta, Golf, Passat and Beetle models.
The action involves more than 7,000 Beetles in the 2013-2015 model years.
In these vehicles, damage to the rear suspension trailing arms may go undetected following a rear or side-rear collision.
The affected vehicles are 2014 model-year Jettas, Beetles, Beetle Convertibles and Passats.
Compared to the 2.5-liter Beetles, the 1.8T Beetle models feature electric power steering and better estimated fuel economy for highway and city driving.
Called the new EA288 engine, the automaker said it will replace all of VW’s 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel engines in Audi and VW TDI Clean Diesel models.
