Vehicle manufacturers are adding a slew of new utility vehicles to their lineups for the 2018 model year, and ceasing production of some of their cars as fleet and retail buyers shift their tastes toward SUVs of all stripes.
The recall, due to begin Jan. 27, covers more than 43,000 Dodge Journey, Jeep Compass, and Jeep Patriot SUVs in the 2016 model year.
The recall, which covers an estimated 1.4 million vehicles, includes the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass, and Chrysler 200 models.
FCA US will replace the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot with a new compact SUV that will be built in Mexico and launch later this year, FCA sources told AutomotiveFleet.com.
The recall covers more than 60,000 2015 model-year Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs in the U.S.
The automaker is issuing two separate recalls affecting nearly 900 vehicles, including Dodge and Jeep models.

AUBURN HILLS, MI – Chrysler recently provided an update on its 2013-MY vehicles, including the 2013 Jeep Patriot. Chrysler noted that its second-generation continuously variable transmission boosts fuel economy 6-8% when compared with a traditional four-speed automatic.
WASHINGTON – Chrysler Group is recalling 1,689 2012 model-year Jeep Patriot and Compass vehicles because some of them may have been built with a fuel tank assembly containing a damaged rollover valve, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
