Ford is investing $1 billion toward the development for several of its SUVs for the 2020 model year, including the Ford Explorer, Police Interceptor Utility, and Lincoln Aviator, which will go on sale later this year.
The safety recall includes 253 2017 Ford Explorer, Taurus and Police Interceptor Utility and Sedan vehicles in the U.S.
The recall covers 77,502 Taurus, Flex, Police Interceptor, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles in the 2013-2015 model years.
The safety recall covers 75,364 2014-2015 model-year Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor Utility vehicles in the U.S.
The recall, which covers 868 2013-MY vehicles, also includes Flex, Police Interceptor Utility, Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT vehicles at risk for fuel leaks.
The recall covers nearly 213,000 2011-2013 model-year SUVs that may have an interior door handle problem.
The recall, which affects certain 2010-2013 models, will allow dealers to address a problem that can lead to doors becoming unlatched during side-impact crashes.

Traditionally, police vehicles have arrived for duty with rear-wheel or front-wheel drive. Starting with the 2015 model year, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors will offer at least one police vehicle in an all-wheel or four-wheel-drive configuration.
