Ford Motor Co. is recalling an estimated 2,106 2019 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid midsize sedans because they may not adequately protect against direct and indirect contact of high voltage sources during normal operation.
The latest iteration of the Ford Fusion includes a suite of new safety features that are standard across the board. The plug-in hybrid variation also includes a longer electric-only driving range.
Ford is recalling 50,000 older battery-electric passenger cars from three nameplates, including the Focus Electric, Fusion Energi, and C-Max Energi, due to a possible defect with the 120-volt convenience charging cable that could cause a fire, according to the company.
The State's Drive Clean Rebate initiative provides residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car from participating dealers.
Ford will debut its standard driver-assist technology package, Co-Pilot360, on the 2019 Fusion mid-size sedan, which has been named Fleet Car of the Year six times since 2011.
For the 2017 model year, the Ford Fusion added 20 driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, and the Ford SYNC3 Infotainment system. It is available with several hybrid options.
Ford's 2017 model year Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid can travel an EPA-rated 610 miles on a single charge and full tank of gasoline, a nearly 11% increase over the outgoing model.
Ford has added two models to its mid-size Fusion sedan lineup for 2017, including the V-6-powered Sport and top-line Premium models, adding twin-turbocharging and all-wheel drive as enhancements.
The suggested retail price for the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid is expected to be reduced by nearly $1,000 for the 2016 model year, according to data from Ford.
