BMW's 5 Series entered its seventh generation with the 2017 540i, which is the first of at least four planned models (with the four-cylinder 530i, 530e iPerformance PHEV, and M550i xDrive). BMW is hosting six Ultimate Driving Experience events around the U.S. this summer and fall that puts drivers behind the wheel of the 2017 540i, the first of five planned 5 Series models in the lineup's seventh generation.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the luxury sedan the prestigious safety award, recognizing the car’s exceptional crashworthiness and front crash prevention system.
The recall, expected to get under way in late March, covers more than 8,700 vehicles.
