Automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems are designed to detect an impending forward crash with another vehicle in time to avoid or mitigate the collision. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration plans to add this technology to the 5-Star safety rating system's list of recommended technologies, beginning with the 2018 model year.
