A gas in the atmostphere that absorbs and emits infrared thermal radiation. Examples of gases include carbon dioxide, methane, oxides of nitrogen (NOx), water vapor, and ozone. In the fleet industry, many private-sector companies and public-sector organizations must adhere to emissions standards (set by the organization or by government agencies). Commonly abbreviated as GHG.
