“Winning the 1995 Professional Fleet Manager of the Year Award increased my credibility at my company and recognition within the industry. My career has been greatly expanded with additional responsibilities; the largest are our corporate travel and relocation programs.” So explains Debbie Mize of her win almost 20 years ago. Automotive Fleet magazine started the Professional Fleet Manager Award in 1985 as a way to recognize the professionalism, experience, and commitment of fleet managers. Our first winner was Jack Lamb of Exxon and in the years since, such industry leaders as Patsy Mance, George Weimer, Joe LaRosa, and Josie Sharp have won.
We thank Jim Frank and his team at Wheels for the support they’ve given the award program through the years. As Jim himself noted at the awards ceremony in 2011, there are so many accomplishments relative to safety, cost savings, and legislative compliance because of the role of the professional fleet manager. As Frank said then, “The fleet manager's role in the implementation of successful enhancements to the fleet program is complex and multifaceted. It requires, at a minimum, obtaining endorsement of senior management, selection and supervision of appropriate vendors/partners, internal coordination and communication, and in many cases, securing enthusiasm and commitment from the vehicle operators.”
