Nissan's next-generation battery-electric Leaf will provide "intelligent zero-emissions mobility," the company said ahead of the vehicle's introduction later this year.

Nissan will likely introduce the new Leaf as a 2018 model year vehicle. The Leaf has became the first mass-market battery-electric vehicle following its introduction in 2010. There are now 260,000 on the road around the globe.

Nissan updated the Leaf for 2016 and expanded the range to 107 miles.

Nissan plans to release photos and information about the next-generation Leaf this summer.
