The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid LT will retail for at least $28,645 when it goes on sale this spring as the first green Malibu, General Motors has announced.

The hybrid powertrain uses a slightly modified drive unit and two electric motors used in the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, and offers an estimated 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway, and 47 mpg combined. Official EPA estimates are pending.

Other standard equipment on the Malibu Hybrid includes 10 airbags, cruise control, and push-button start with passive entry. An Ecotec 1.8L optimized direct-injected gasoline engine is mated with a two-motor electric drive unit.

The 2016 Malibu Hybrid also offers several new safety technologies including Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Low Speed Front Automatic Braking.

The Malibu Hybrid model includes standard Chevrolet MyLink Radio with 7-inch diagonal color touch screen, available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a rear vision camera.

As previously reported, the base-level 2016 Malibu L model will sell for $22,500.
