GM and Autobytel.com Inc. said they had lined up 22 Chevrolet dealers in the Washington, DC area to sell cars online. General Motors is not ready to give up on Internet vehicle sales. Car shoppers will be able to check dealer inventories on the Internet and get price quotes from dealers. The business model will allow consumers to locate the car or truck with specific options and buy the car from a dealer in northern Virginia, southern Maryland and the District of Columbia at a special e-price, expected to be less than the suggested retail price on the window sticker. When it announced its e-business strategy last summer, GM said its goal was to offer the customer the right car and the right price at the right time, eliminating the long wait for a customer order.
