inthinc Technology Solutions Inc., a global provider of telematics, fleet management and driver safety solutions, recently opened a new operation and support center in La Serena, Chile. The new center will further inthinc’s commitment to its growing international customer base by offering full Spanish support from installation and field services, to technical support, warehousing and account management, according to the company.

Since 2009, inthinc has worked with partners and customers in Central and South America to provide advanced fleet management and driver safety technology. The company’s Latin American business has grown by 41 percent over the past year and is slated to continue its growth well into 2013, according to the company.

According to a study conducted by C.J. Driscoll and Associates, Latin American revenues from vehicle location hardware sales and services for fleets and consumers are projected to total nearly $2.7 billion by 2014. The new center in La Serena, Chile will allow inthinc to match its increased business in South America with direct support.

Current inthinc customers in South America include global organizations that leverage inthinc waySmart to improve driver behavior and asset management. With waySmart, fleet managers can monitor driver behavior and use real-time in-cab verbal coaching — in Spanish — to shape safer driving habits and train inexperienced drivers. RFID technology addresses unauthorized use of vehicles by requiring drivers to log-in to the vehicle’s device before operating. Fleet managers can also keep track of trips taken and locate vehicles — no matter how remote the location — with tri-band satellite coverage.
