WASHINGTON – Subaru is recalling a number of its vehicles for an issue with the accessory puddle lights that brighten the doors under the vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explained that a short circuit can develop when a puddle light or connector is exposed to an electrolytic moisture source, such as road spray with salt in it.

Affected models include the 2009-2012 Forester, the 2010-2011 Legacy, 2010-2011 Outback, and 2006-2012 Tribeca. A total of 633,842 could potentially be affected, NHTSA reported.

Subaru plans to notify owners, and dealers will install an additional fused harness free of charge to deal with this issue. NHTSA said the recall should begin during February. Owners can contact 1-800-782-2783 for more information. Subaru's recall campaign number is WQE-41.
