Ford said its Transit Connect Wagon will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013.

DEARBORN, MI – Ford has unveiled its all-new 2014 model-year Transit Connect Wagon, which the automaker plans to offer in five- and seven-passenger configurations, two wheelbase lengths, and three trim levels (XL, XLT, and Titanium).

Ford said the Transit Connect Wagon will offer two engine options, a 2.5L four-cylinder and an optional 1.6L EcoBoost that the company said it expects to get better than 30 mpg highway fuel economy. The automaker matched each engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. One feature that Ford noted fleet administrators can use to restrict maximum vehicle speed and audio volume is the automaker’s MyKey programmable ignition key system.

Inside, the van comes with a 60/40 three-passenger second-row bench seat and fold-flat second- and third-row seating with third-row independent fore-and-aft sliding capability. Ford said the interior will offer a choice of seating surfaces, including cloth, leather, and heavy-duty vinyl, to meet the needs of a range of customers. Payload capacity for the van is at least 1,200 lbs., according to Ford. It also offers more than 100 cu. ft. of cargo space inside, and is approved to tow up to 2,000 lbs. when equipped with the right towing gear.

When it comes to safety, all Transit Connect Wagon models come equipped with first-row frontal, pelvis, and side airbags, with first-, second- and third-row side curtain airbags in the long-wheelbase models. The short-base models receive first- and second-row side curtain airbags instead. Ford also plans to offer an optional electric windshield defroster. For added child safety, the Transit Connect Wagon will offer a child observation mirror that helps parents make sure their children are safely belted into the second- and third-row seats.

Ford said the vehicle is set to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013 and that a consumer information for the vehicle is up at ford.com/transitconnectwagon.
