WASHINGTON – Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 8,675 accessory all-season floor mats, which were sold for use in 2012-2013 model-year Mercedes-Benz ML-Class vehicles, because they may lead to gas pedal entrapment and unintended acceleration.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the floor mats in question may not fully conform to the contour of the vehicle’s floor plan as intended, so clearance between the mat and the gas pedal may be insufficient. The recall affects all-season floor mats sold for use in 2012-2013 model-year ML350, ML550 and ML63 vehicles.

To remedy the problem, Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the floor mats free of charge. Until the replacement mats become available, however, the automaker advises vehicle owners to remove such accessory all-season floor mats from the vehicles.

This safety recall is expected to get under way in September. Only vehicles equipped with the accessory floor mats are affected by the recall.

Vehicle owners can reach Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
