Collision Repair Industry Sees More Consolidation

HOUSTON – Don’t be surprised if one of your collision repair vendors emerges with a new moniker. Recently, a number of major collision repair companies – including Service King Collision Repair Centers and Caliber Collision Centers -- have opted to expand their market share by acquiring existing body shops.  

Texas-based Service King Collision Repair Centers recently acquired Arizona-based Auto Body World’s eight locations in the Phoenix and Casa Grande areas. Service King has 48 collision repair centers in Texas. Prior to this acquisition, all of Service King’s collision repair centers were located in the state of Texas.

Gerber Collision & Glass, owned by the Boyd Group, recently acquired two collision repair centers – Leading Edge Collision in Orlando, Fla., and ACI Auto Collision in Jessup, Md. – to bring its number of U.S. locations to 141.

Caliber Collision Centers has acquired Crown Collision in Gilbert, Ariz., a former 911 Collision franchise in Tempe, Ariz., and Legend Collision Center in San Antonio, Texas. Caliber Collision Centers operates 106 locations in the states of California, Texas, Nevada and Arizona.

Cooks Collision Centers, based in northern California, decided to venture south and acquire Holmes Body Shop. The purchase includes six collision repair centers in southern California. The locations are Alhambra, Canoga Park, Duarte, El Segundo, Riverside and Westlake Village. This brings Cooks’ total locations in the state to 25.

Back in April, Minnesota-based ABRA Auto Body & Glass acquired Bradshaw Collision Repair Centers’ five locations in the Nashville, Tenn., area. Since that acquisition, the company has also opened three new centers in Clarksville, Tenn.; Macon, Ga. and Durham, N.C. The company has 41 franchise locations and 83 corporate-owned locations in 12 states.
