WASHINGTON – Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 663 2013 model-year Lexus GS 350 vehicles because of a potential steering wheel problem.

The steering-control electronic control unit (ECU) programming for the variable gear ratio steering (VGRS) system might cause the steering wheel to become off-centered when restarting immediately after the vehicle is parked with the steering wheel turned, reported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This poses a safety risk.

The vehicles covered by the recall were all manufactured from Dec. 12, 2011 through Feb. 7, 2012.

To remedy the problem, Lexus dealers will update the VGRS system free of charge. The safety recall is expected to get under way in early June.

Owners can reach Toyota at (800) 331-4331.
