Toyota announced at the beginning of April that it plans to open a new Toyota Technical Center Office in Silicon Valley in California. The automaker said it plans to co-locate the office with the Toyota Info Technology Center (ITC) in order to leverage complementary knowledge and skills.

In addition to the new office in Mountain View, the automaker is hiring approximately 150 engineers, technicians, and researchers by the end of 2012, with the majority at Toyota’s two Michigan facilities in Ann Arbor and Saline. These employees will focus on the areas of powertrain, mechanical design, electrical engineering, electronics, and advanced research, according to the automaker.

Beyond these hires, the company plans to add 100 more jobs during the next five years. Individuals in these new roles will focus on engine and transmission technology for the North American market.
