WASHINGTON – American Honda Motor Co. is issuing two vehicle recalls – one involving 8,709 2012 model-year Acura MDX and Honda Pilot vehicles, and another involving 45,747 2008-2009 model-year Odyssey minivans.

The Odyssey recall concerns the gas-filled struts that help to raise and support the liftgate. Odysseys equipped with a power liftgate system may be prone to early life failures because of a manufacturing flaw, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This flaw could result in a leak of the pressurized gas, leading to reduced strut performance and posing a safety risk.

Dealers will replace both power liftgate gas struts free of charge. This recall is expected to get under way around March 13.

Honda is recalling the 2012 model-year Pilot and Acura MDX vehicles because the vent shut float (VSF) valve case in the fuel tank assembly doesn’t meet design specifications. As a result, fuel may leak and pose a fire risk.

To remedy the problem, dealers will inspect the VSF assembly date and, if necessary, replace the fuel tank assembly free of charge.

Honda can be reached at (800) 999-1009.
